ECO Settings & Attributes

Updated over a week ago

Bild gives Admins the ability to customize Engineering Change Order (ECO) workflows to better fit team needs. These settings help enforce file control, approval requirements, and data standardization across your change management process.

This article outlines the available ECO settings and how to create and manage ECO attributes.

👉 Note: You must be an Admin to view and manage these settings.

ECO Settings

All ECO settings are found under Account Settings > File Settings.

1. Lock on Approval

  • Automatically locks files once an approval is completed and closed.

  • Locked files cannot be edited or modified.

2. Lock on Release

  • Automatically locks files once they have been released.

  • Can be applied to multiple files through an ECO release or to individual file releases.

👉 Important:
Only Admins and the user who released the file can unlock files.

💡 Best Practice:
If you wish to use file locking, we recommend enabling one of the locking options, not both. Using both settings simultaneously is not recommended.

3. Require ECO to Release

  • Prevents files from being released unless they belong to an active ECO.

4. Require Approved Status to Release

  • Prevents files from being released without an approved approval request.

  • Files without an approval cannot be released.

ECO Attributes

ECO attributes are fully customizable data fields used to track information about your change orders. Attributes can be text fields, numbers, dropdown lists, nested selects, or file attachments.

Examples of Common ECO Attributes

  • Reason for Change (text)

  • Change Type (dropdown)

  • Part Number (text or number)

  • Risk Level (dropdown or nested select)

  • Supporting Documentation (attachment)

Creating an ECO Attribute

To add a new attribute:

  1. Navigate to Account Settings > ECO Attributes

  2. Click “+ New”

  3. Name your field

  4. Select a value type:

    • Text

    • Number

    • Select (dropdown list)

    • Nested Select (multi-level dropdown)

    • Attachment

  5. (Optional) Toggle “Required to Release” to prevent an ECO from being released unless this field is filled in

  6. Click “Create” to save

Editing Existing ECO Attributes

  1. Go to Account Settings > ECO Attributes

  2. Hover over the attribute you want to edit and click “Edit”

  3. Make the necessary changes

  4. Click “Update” to save

👉 Note: Changes to attributes apply going forward and will not retroactively update previously created ECOs.
