Duplicate File Management

Updated over a week ago

The Duplicate Files feature allows administrators to identify and manage duplicate file names across the entire vault.

Once enabled, Bild will calculate and display all duplicate file names, giving you visibility into where duplicates exist and helping maintain data integrity moving forward.

Important: This feature must be enabled at the account level and requires Admin permissions.

Enabling Duplicate Files

To enable duplicate file tracking:

  1. Click your Account Level Settings in the top right corner of Bild.

  2. Select Duplicate Files from the left-hand menu.

  3. If this feature has never been enabled, it will display as Disabled.

  4. Click the checkbox to enable the Duplicate File feature.

Once enabled, Bild will calculate duplicates across your entire vault.

What Information Is Displayed

After calculation completes, you will see a list of duplicate files across all workspaces in your vault.

The table includes:

  • File Name

  • Part Number

  • Number of Duplicates

  • File Type

    • Drawing

    • Non-Drawing

This gives you immediate visibility into where duplication exists and how widespread it may be.

Filtering Duplicate Files

You can filter the duplicate file list in two ways:

Filter by Duplicate Type

  • All Duplicates

  • File Name

  • Part Number

Filter by File Type

  • All

  • Drawing

  • Non-Drawing

This allows you to narrow your results quickly β€” for example, isolating only duplicate drawings or only duplicate file names.

Viewing Duplicate Locations

You can expand a file entry by clicking the dropdown arrow next to the file name.

This will display:

  • The full list of duplicate files

  • The file path for each duplicate

  • The workspace where each duplicate exists

This makes it easy to identify whether duplicates exist within the same workspace or across multiple workspaces.

Quick File Preview Tip

If you need to quickly inspect a file:

  • Hold down CTRL on your keyboard

  • Hover over the file name

  • Open the file directly in a browser window

This allows you to view the file in the viewer without navigating away from the Duplicate Files page.

Duplicate Indicators in the Workspace

Once the feature is enabled:

  • Files that have duplicates will display a double-square icon next to the file name in the workspace.

  • Clicking this icon will show a list of duplicate files associated with that file.

This provides immediate visibility directly inside your workspace β€” not just within the account-level Duplicate Files page.

Upload Restrictions After Enabling

Enabling Duplicate Files introduces a key safeguard:

  • Bild will restrict the upload of duplicate file names going forward.

However:

  • Bild cannot prevent duplicate part numbers at upload.

This is because part numbers are only assigned after the file is pushed into the workspace, meaning they are not available at the time of upload validation.
