Mapping Metadata to Item Fields

When creating or linking to items, PDM design file metadata can be mapped to PLM item category fields from the Metadata Mapping settings if they represent similar information.

Setting Configuration

Choose the PLM item field from the dropdown on the right that aligns with the PDM metadata on the left. Only item fields that share the same value type will appear in the dropdown.

Prepopulate New Item Fields

1. Navigate to a PDM file to create a PLM item from.

2. Notice the Description and Cost fields (configured in the section above) prepopulate the fields in the item creation dialog.

Linking as Metadata Source to an Existing Item

1. Link a PDM design file to an existing PLM item and choose this file to be the source for Metadata by selecting the checkbox.

2. The current value for any mapped item fields will be overwritten with the values from the linked file.

Choosing a Metadata Source

When multiple design files are associated with the same item, users can select between them as the source for the thumbnail, BOM, and metadata.

1. Switch the Metadata Source from the Design Files tab of an item.

2. Fetch the latest from PDM by manually syncing from the data card of the design file. You will be prompted to fetch updates when submitting an item for review as well.

3. Observe any changes to the mapped item fields.
