The Data Card (also known as the file info drawer) is where all a file’s critical data is stored. Within it, you can:
View and edit custom properties and metadata.
Navigate parent/child references and related files.
Generate universal file formats for easier sharing.
Sync with integrations (if applicable).
Access historical file versions and revert if needed.
Navigating within the Data Card
To open the Data Card, right-click on any file and select “Show File Info.” Depending on your add-ons, the Data Card will display two or three tabs:
Details – Metadata, references, and file properties.
Activity – File history and version tracking.
Suppliers – Supplier-related details (if applicable).
Metadata Management
Viewing File Metadata
The Metadata section within the Data Card displays a file’s custom properties and additional information.
If a file has multiple configurations, you can toggle between them using the "File Properties" dropdown. Select a configuration to view its specific metadata.
Editing Metadata
Click the "Edit" button within the metadata section.
Modify the necessary fields in the metadata editor popup.
Click “Update” to save your changes.
💡 Bild Tip: If the “Edit” button is grayed out, the file may be checked out, locked, under review, or you may lack permissions to edit metadata.
🔹 For SolidWorks Users: Depending on your account settings, some custom properties edited within Bild will be written back into your SolidWorks file.
