Bill of Materials (BOMs)

Bill of Materials are utilized for a variety of purposes, common examples include:

  • EBOMs: utilized by engineering teams for tracking all parts/assemblies as designed to make products

  • MBOMs: utilized by manufacturing teams for tracking the above in addition to requirements for manufacturing and shipping products


In Bild, users have the option to create the below for the typical types of BOMs above:

  • Indented BOMs - describing top-level assemblies and underlying sub-assemblies

  • Direct BOMs - diving into parts/components for sub-assemblies

  • Parts only BOMs - a flat structured BOM with all components for all sub-assemblies

Creating A BOM from Vault

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Click "+New" in the BOMs overlay pane

  3. Title your BOM and choose the Select From Vault option

  4. Select/multi-select the components you want to include

  5. Click Continue

  6. Chose the Configuration of the selected file(s) by clicking on the File Properties drop-down

  7. Click Continue

Creating A BOM from an Excel File

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Click "+New" in the BOMs overlay pane

  3. Title your BOM and choose the Upload a File option

  4. Drag and drop your Excel file into the screen or click the Select button to choose from your local files

  5. Click Continue

  6. Map your Excel fields to the correct Bild fields

  7. Once done, select Submit


Renaming A BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM you would like to rename

  3. Click on the gear icon next to the BOM name

  4. Update the BOM name within the Name field

  5. Select the Update button to save your changes


Deleting A BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM you would like to delete

  3. Click on the gear icon next to the BOM name

  4. Select the Delete button on the upper right corner of the page

  5. Type in the action confirmation

  6. Select Delete


BOM Views

BOM views enable teams to create separate BOM views for specific groups or departments, based on their specific requirements/needs. You can have multiple views within each BOM and manage each View’s shown/hidden fields. When exporting BOMs - you’ll only export the files and properties shown within that view.

Adding A BOM View

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM you would like to add a view for

  3. Click on the gear icon next to the BOM name

  4. Under the Views section, click the Add New View button

  5. Title your new view and customize what is shown/hidden + order of fields

  6. Select Add

Editing An Existing BOM View

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM you would like to edit a view for

  3. Click on the gear icon next to the BOM name

  4. Under the Views section, select the view you would like to edit

  5. Customize the view by showing/hiding metadata properties as well as updating the order of the columns

  6. Select Update to save your changes

Deleting A BOM View

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Click on the gear icon next to the BOM name

  4. Under the Views section, select the view you would like to delete

  5. Select the Delete button on the upper right corner of the page

  6. Type in the action confirmation

  7. Select Delete


Submit An Approval Request For A BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Click the Start Approval button

  4. Specify the due date (optional) and add reviewers and/or groups

  5. Click the Request Approval button

  6. Reviewers will receive notifications to provide input, Approve, or Reject

Releasing A BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Click the Close/Release button

  4. Enter the BOM’s Revision number/letter

  5. Click the Create button

  6. The BOM will then be released


Creating Versions

Once your BOM has been created, you'll need to create a version of that BOM to export either 1) just the BOM in .xlsx format, or 2) a zip file including the CAD files associated to that BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Click on the Current dropdown

  4. Select the Create A Version button

  5. Title the version, then click Create

Versioned BOMs are frozen captures and will not sync to the latest changes - to see the latest live version of a BOM select the Current BOM version


Exporting BOMs

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Select the Export button

  4. Here you’ll have the option to choose what file formats you’d like to generate, toggle the options you’d like to export

  5. Select Export

  6. Bild will then generate your file formats and email you a download link once ready, once you receive this click Download


BOM Statuses

Bild’s BOM feature gives you instant information about changes made to your vault and/or BOM and enables you to sync everything through the click of a button.

Red - Multiple Items found on the vault, needs attention to associate

Blue - No association found to any items in the vault

Orange - The value in the vault is newer than in the BOM

Value in BOM is newer than in the Vault

Syncing A BOM

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Select the Edit button

  4. Select the Sync button

  5. Click Sync


Editing BOMs

Adding A Line

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Select the Edit button

  4. Right-click on the cell above where you would like to add a line

  5. Select Add Line Item and chose your line item

  6. Select the file you'd like to add and click Continue

  7. Select the views you'd like to add the files to and click Continue

Deleting A Line

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Select the Edit button

  4. Right-click on the cell above where you would like to add a line

  5. Select Delete Line Item

  6. Confirm the line you'd like to delete and select Delete


Edit BOM Metadata

  1. Click on the BOMs icon within your project

  2. Navigate to and open the BOM

  3. Select the Edit button

  4. Select any of the BOM cells

  5. Edit metadata

  6. Once done, select Exit Edit Mode to save any changes
