Creating a BOM

Bild’s BOM management tool makes it simple to create BOMs, whether starting fresh from your vault or importing an existing BOM. Below are step-by-step instructions for both methods:

Creating a BOM from Your Vault

1. Navigate to the BOMs page in the left dock menu.

2. Click +New in the BOMs overlay pane.

3. Title your BOM and select the Select From Vault option.

4. Choose the file(s) you want to include.

5. Click Continue.

6. Select the configuration of the file(s) by using the File Properties drop-down.

7. Click Continue.

Importing a BOM from an Excel File

1. Click +New in the BOMs overlay pane.

2. Title your BOM and select the Upload a File option.

3. Drag and drop your Excel file into the screen, or click Select to choose a file from your device.

4. Click Continue.

5. Map your Excel fields to the appropriate Bild fields.

6. When complete, click Submit.

Important: Ensure that both the level and part number fields are populated to correctly map the data to the relevant files.

Note: Any fields displayed in red have not been mapped. You can manually map them by selecting the appropriate destination field from the dropdown menu.

BOM Views

BOM views allow teams to create different sets of information for the same BOM data. You can have multiple views within each BOM, controlling which fields are shown or hidden. This is useful for grouping data based on team needs, user roles, or different stages of your product's lifecycle.

Adding a BOM View

1. Open the BOM for which you want to add a view.

2. Click the gear icon next to the BOM name.

3. In the Views section, click Add New View.

4. Title the new view and customize the shown/hidden fields and field order.

5. Click Add.

Editing an Existing BOM View

  1. Open the BOM with the view you want to edit.

  2. Click the gear icon next to the BOM name.

  3. In the Views section, select the view you want to edit.

  4. Customize the view by adjusting the visible metadata fields and column order.

  5. Click Update to save your changes.

Deleting a BOM View

  1. Open the BOM with the view you want to delete.

  2. Click the gear icon next to the BOM name.

  3. In the Views section, select the view you want to delete.

  4. Click Delete in the upper-right corner.

  5. Confirm the action by typing the required confirmation.

  6. Click Delete to finalize.

BOM Type

After creating a BOM, you can choose between three structure types: Indented, Direct, and Parts Only.

  • Indented BOM: Best for top-level assemblies, showing components and sub-assemblies in a hierarchical format.

  • Direct BOM: Ideal for sub-assemblies, displaying only the immediate components of the assembly.

  • Parts Only BOM: Lists only the parts, without any assembly hierarchy.

Selecting a different BOM structure:

  1. Navigate to your BOM.

  2. Click on the "Indented" drop-down menu.

  3. Select your desired BOM structure: Indented, Direct, or Parts Only.

BOM settings allow you to manage essential actions such as renaming or deleting BOMs to keep your data organized and up to date.
