February Updates: Dark Mode, Metadata Controls & Stronger Approvals

Updated this week

February’s updates bring a mix of highly requested features and important workflow refinements. From visual enhancements like Dark Mode to stronger metadata validation and improved export capabilities, this release focuses on giving your team more flexibility, clarity, and control in daily workflows.

Here’s what’s new

Updates

Dark Mode

You can now toggle between Light Mode and Dark Mode in Bild. Whether you prefer a darker interface for reduced eye strain or simply enjoy a modern UI aesthetic, switching modes is quick and seamless.

To enable this follow the below steps.

1. Navigate to your user settings in the top right of Bild

2. Select Preferences

3. Use the drop down to select either light or dark mode

(Set your web browser to system so it follows the settings you have set in your desktop application.)

Export Project Files

You can now export an Excel list of project files and their metadata in two ways:

  • From within an individual Workspace

  • From the account-level settings to export files across multiple or all Workspaces in your Vault

This makes audits, reporting, and data reviews significantly easier. To read more about exporting files please see this help center article.

URL Support for Metadata Fields

You can now include embedded links directly within metadata fields.

Simply edit metadata and enter your URL — it will display as a clickable hyperlink in the Data Card and can also be shown in the Project Table view if the metadata field is selected as a visible column in account-level settings. To learn more about metadata settings please see this help center article.

Required Metadata Checks for Approvals

You can now see File Type directly in table views, making it easier to distinguish between parts, assemblies, drawings and other file types at a glance - especially useful when reviewing large datasets or preparing ECOs.

Add the file type column to your table through the following steps. Navigate to your account level settings int he top right corner of Bild. Select Table Columns from the menu on the left. Scroll to file type in the list of options. If this is a hidden column select the grey eye to enable this column. Use the dots to move your column to your preferred spot in the column list.

Additional Updates

  • All relevant context menu options now consistently display for items

  • “Where Used” and Children Files are now visible in the File Info drawer for items

  • The Create Approval button now consistently appears on the ECO page

  • Improved filtering behavior for nested select fields in BOMs

  • Fixed an issue where creating a folder in an empty Workspace was not functioning properly

  • Prevented approvals from being created through an ECO when files are locked or checked out, ensuring workflow integrity
