Bild’s shared links feature allows users to securely share files and their details with external guests. Users can choose between version-specific links or live links, depending on their needs. Shared links provide access to file previews, metadata, and downloads, streamlining external collaboration.
Version Links vs. Live Links
Version Links: Version links are tied to a specific file version, meaning they do not update if the file changes. This ensures that external users always see the exact version that was shared, even if newer iterations exist.
Live Links: Live links always reflect the most up-to-date version of a file. If any metadata or geometry updates occur, the shared link will automatically display the latest changes, eliminating the need to send a new link for each revision.
All shared links within a project can be found under "Shared Links" in the left menu bar.
⚠️ Important: Bild shared links are public URLs that do not expire and can be accessed by anyone with the link. For a more secure alternative, consider using the Supplier Portal for controlled file sharing.
Creating Version-Specific Links
Version links are generated from the File Info Drawer and provide access to a specific file version.
Right-click on the file you want to share and select “Show File Info.”
Scroll to the “Share This Version” section and click the Generate Link button.
Select the file format to include (native, universal, or both).
Copy and share the version link with external guests.
Anyone with the version link will be able to view the file in the online viewer, download it in the selected format, and see metadata specific to the version shared.
💡 Bild Tip: If selecting the "Universal Format" option, ensure the required file formats (STEP, STL, JT, X_T, PDF) are generated beforehand; otherwise, external guests won’t be able to download them.
Creating Live Links
Live links provide ongoing access to the latest file version without needing to regenerate links for updates.
Select the files you want to share by clicking their checkboxes.
Right-click, navigate to "More Actions," and select "Share Live Files."
Enter a title for the link.
Choose the file format(s) (native, universal, or both).
Click “Generate Link” and copy it for sharing.
As with version links, external users with access to a live link will always be able to view the file in the online viewer, download the selected format, and access the latest metadata updates.
💡 Bild Tip: Ensure universal formats are pre-generated before sharing; otherwise, external users won’t be able to download them.
Regenerating Shared Links
If you need to invalidate an old link and generate a new one:
Click "Shared Links" in the left menu bar.
Locate the link you want to update.
Click the refresh icon to generate a new link.
Copy the new link and share it with external guests.
This action disables the previous link, preventing further access.
Removing Live Links
If external users no longer need access, you can remove a live link entirely:
Click "Shared Links" in the left menu bar.
Locate the link to be removed.
Click the delete icon to remove the shared link.
Once removed, the link will be marked as invalid, and external users will no longer be able to access the files.
